The Founders of BIG S.T.E.P.S. U.P. are Linwood Webster and Alfonza Marshall Jr.
About Linwood:
Born in Manhattan, New York, Linwood lived in New York until 6 years old. Moving to Clinton/Ingold N.C. in Sampson County, Linwood was raised in a rural part of North Carolina, on a farm. Raised by a single Mother who is a high school graduate and a Military veteran, she worked in a drugstore in Clinton, N.C. for over 23 years. Linwood’s father, having a 6th grade education, being an Army Veteran of WWII, a Postman/Letter Carrier, and a NY City Taxicab Driver, died when Linwood was 9 years old.
As a first-generation college graduate, Linwood realized after high school that the only way to affect change was and is to lead by example. As a first-generation college graduate, Linwood attended North Carolina Central University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Durham, North Carolina, completing a B.A. in English, and Media/Journalism. Linwood attended Durham Technical Community College in Durham, North Carolina, completing course work towards a Microcomputer Curriculum. Linwood attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina for a Masters of Science in Information Science degree. Linwood attended Harvard University Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts for post-graduate studies while completing the Harvard University Administrative Fellowship Program in 2002-2003. Linwood is currently attending North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, completing a Masters in Education, Counselor Education Program, with a focus in Clinical Mental Health. In conjunction with the Counseling Degree, Linwood is currently receiving clinical mental health training in the Psychology Department at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina.
Linwood is a powerful enthusiastic speaker that has been motivating audiences professionally for over 5 years. He brings a focus on “Teaching, Talking, and Technology”. Linwood shares principles and personal development strategies that inspire growth in individuals, helping them become successful in Life. His mission is to help all individuals discover their greatness within themselves and achieve success.
Linwood is experienced in working with college students, young adults, and adolescents. Linwood possesses competencies in the areas of academic advising, clinical mental health counseling, information technology (IT), college teaching, minority student recruitment, and multicultural affairs.
His career includes over 18 years of higher education training and work at a range of college and universities. The list of schools include: Duke University, Harvard University, Durham Technical Community College, NC State University, and UNC-Chapel Hill
He has provided services to and worked with a variety of entities. He presents as a guest speaker at schools, churches, colleges and universities, and community programs. His speaking topics include racial/ethnic diversity, anger management, behavior disorders youth, identity development, and team building.
